Formerly office space, the dining area serves as a meeting place for the society's members. Here they can learn about the latest medical news and socialize at General Membership meetings, discuss business at Board meetings and view historical medical artifacts. The plaque on the left preserves an article from the Morning Call commemorating the 100th anniversary of the LCMS.
This collection of medical equipment, displayed in the dining area, was donated by the Allentown Hospital upon the hospital's closing; some of the equipment in these cases date as far back as the mid-1800s. These pieces serve to preserve a formative era in medical history.
A Closer Look:
The historical medical equipment displayed here includes:
Urethral sounds - probes used to widen the inner diameter of the urethra
Diptheria intubation set - tool used to maintain a patent airway in children with diptheria, a potentially fatal disease
Ophthalmoscope - instrument used to examine the health of the retina and vitreous humor
The board room served as the location for meetings until the redecorating of the dining area. Other rooms on the upper floor include a powder room and storage space.
A Closer Look:
Photos of past presidents line the walls of the board room, lending the room a historical feel.

In its earlier days, the society did all of its printing and preparing of pamphlets and other publications in-house. These labelling machines, now antique, have produced thousands of mailings for the LCMS over the years.
The Robert P. Parsons Building also serves as the headquarters of the Lehigh County Medical Society Alliance (formerly Auxilliary), an organization composed of society members' spouses. To learn more about this organization, click here.
